We need to keep the best, says Millers chief

ANDY Scott intends to do all in his power to keep Ryan Taylor at Rotherham United—no matter what division they are in.

The home-grown centre-forward is out of contract this summer and has stalled on signing a new deal while he sees where the Millers will be next season.

The smart money has been on Taylor leaving if promotion isn't won but Scott, who praised the way he led the line against Hereford at the weekend, wants him to stay around and develop his game here.

Said Scott: "I've watched him a few times and I thought he was immense on Saturday. He's a young lad with a lot of potential and all he was missing was a goal.

"For a young lad to dominate two experienced centre-halves like he did was impressive.

"I intend to try and get him to stay. (Good) centre-forwards are at a premium and we've got one. He's come through the youth set-up and I've already spoken to Paul Douglas (chief operating officer) about his contract situation and Nicky Law is also out of contract and he's under 24 too. We don't want to lose them and we need to make sure we do our best to keep them here."

The Millers chief added: "I'll be speaking to Ryan about my plans for the future and what I can do for him and how he can progress and hopefully that will interest him because it would be a shame if he left Rotherham now and stopped playing regular first team football.

"At his age it's vital he continues his development and I believe I'm the right man to help him with that.

"He showed on Saturday he's a massive asset to the team."

Four points behind the play-offs frame in League Two, the Millers go to Northampton Town tonight (7.45pm) before entertaining Gillingham on Easter Monday (3pm).
