We can beat Pirates, says Titans star

SPRING-heeled full-back Peter Swatkins says there’s no reason to fear the longest haul in rugby as Titans head to Cornish Pirates on Sunday.

The Penzance club—back at their old Mennaye Field headquarters—have started well in the Championship and pushed Bedford all the way at Goldington Road last Saturday before going down 32-25.

The week before that they slaughtered Plymouth 46-13 in the cross-Tamar derby—enough to send the Clifton Lane alarm bells clanging.

But Rotherham have always done well at Pirates and Swatkins says there’s no reason why Andre Bester’s side can’t bring home some reward, providing they get out of the starting blocks.

Saturday’s defeat the the Brickfields continued the worrying run of shipping a try inside the opening ten minutes.

Said Swatkins: “We went with a game plan and an intention to win. Unfortunately things didn’t go out way in the first half-hour so we need to have a look at that and try to put it right.
