ROTHERHAM United are closing in on a new striker, with long-term target Matt Tubbs still in the frame.

Having bolstered his options by signing forward Danny Hylton and utility man Robert Milsom this week, team manager Steve Evans still wants a couple more players to complete his squad ready for an assault on League One.

They include a striker and a midfielder, with the Millers chief aiming to land his targets as early as next week.

Despite speculation that Bournemouth hot shot Tubbs, linked with Rotherham for the last year, does not fancy a move north, Evans didn't rule him out but stressed he was just one player he was looking at.

He said: "When I spoke to the Advertiser a few weeks ago, I said it would be a big week and we went and signed two or three players.

"The next five or six days coming up should be exciting too, so watch this space.

"We need good players, not just any players. I want a couple more and as regards a striker, at this stage I am not ruling out anything and that includes Matt Tubbs."

The players reported back on Wednesday in good shape and minus Ian Sharps, who has been released by mutual consent. Kari Arnason has been granted extra time off after international duties with Iceland.
