We need to repay fans' faith: Taylor

WINGER Jon Taylor says Rotherham United owe it to the fans to pour everything into the remaining matches

The long-suffering supporters haven’t seen a win in nearly two months and as the Championship’s bottom club prepare for tomorrow’s trip to Wolves, the winger stresses it’s not for the want of trying.

He’s been humbled with the way the players have been clapped off after some games, especially following last Saturday’s loss to Aston Villa, and believes that loyalty could still be rewarded with some better results if the Millers can get the rub of the green.

“It’s unbelievable, we’re bottom of the league and we’ve only got 17 points but the fans have stuck with us and we are trying to repay that faith,” he said. “The gaffer was saying last week that we need to show up every game like it’s our last and that’s how we’ve got to do it now, for the supporters and the club.

“The matches have been a lot closer than they sound. We were drawing 0-0 against Villa and they got a lucky goal – an own goal – and their second was on the counter attack. It was the same the previous week at Brentford.

“We have been getting beat but the fans have still been clapping us off and that’s lovely but at the same time we are trying our best to give them a win. If we stick together and keep working hard and get that bit of luck then we will, but we’ve not had that all season. Some people say there is no such thing as luck but other teams are getting it and we’re not. “

Taylor, a club record signing  from Peterborough United last summer, has had his best run of form in a Rotherham shirt  in recent weeks but his main concern is the team's plight.

“It’s not about individuals at the minute,” he added. “ It’s about the team and when you’re at the bottom then everyone needs to be right at it.”
