Warne looks to Rotherham United's future

The Millers boss, who turns 44 today, has plenty to occupy him, with a retained list to finalise and prospective signings to tie down.

He hopes to get one over the line this week, with others delayed due to the play-offs, but can now concentrate on moulding without the day-to-day distractions of a league season.

"I am looking forward to the pressure of matchday being away from me for a bit," he said after yesterday's Championship finale against Derby County.

"I can put my setting back to zero and might watch some of our games back and see what I did wrong. I'm going on a (coaching) course and I will be meeting players and agents and trying to sell them the dream.

"I have taken this job on because I think I can do good. If I can't then unfortunately I will exit the club, which is a sad day for me, so I am putting everyone ounce of effort in.

"We are not going to sign a 25-year-old Alan Shearer or a Lionel Messi. We will try and bring in realistic targets who can come and improve us and hopefully have a positive season."

Warne's duties will also include the appointment of two physios after the departure of Mike Preston and the retirement of long-serving Denis Circuit.
