Toseland aims for podium

BULLISH James Toseland heads for Spain this weekend, saying: “My season startes here.”

The Kiveton rider has had a tough start to his quest for the third World Superbikes crown with a best finish of sixth in the four races to date in Australia and Portugal.

But Toseland is confident that problems with his Sterilgarda Yamaha bike are over and he can claim his first podium at the familiar Valencia circuit.

He rode consistently well at the track test sessions recently and aims to utilise his experience this Sunday.

“Everything is so close in this championship,” he said. “But I feel I’m definitely on one of the most competitive packages on the grid. Even with the problems we’ve had, there’s not much that can pass us on the straight or match us with braking power.

“During the winter I had three tests, two in Portugal and one at Valencia. At the Valencia test I was consistently one of the top three and now I’m looking forward to racing on a track I know well.”
