Titans bow to Munster quality

TITANS coach Justin Burnell says a failure to make the most of possession proved crucial as they were beaten on home soil by powerhouses Munster in the British and Irish Cup.

The 35-24 defeat still leaves Rotherham in with a chance of qualifying following London Welsh’s expulsion from the competition and this weekend’s return at Ennis RFC in County Clare could provide decisive.

Munster ran in five tries, three in the first half through three-time Irish international James Cronin and Kiwi Te Aihe Toma and two after the break from Vince O'Brien to secure a comfortable win.

Rotherham’s scores came from newcomers Juan Pablo Estelles and Santi Socino, plus a penalty try awarded late on.

Burnell admitted his side was second best - not surprising considering that Munster fielded three full internationals and seven others with U20 caps.

“There were good things and bad things in the game,” admitted Burnell.

“It was disappointing because you have to win your possession and the lineout wasn’t good. That’s something we’ll have to work on as we look forward to this week and then start working towards the Doncaster game on Boxing Day.”
