The Millers are up!

ROTHERHAM United clinched promotion to the Championship on penalties after an epic League One play-off final with Leyton Orient at Wembley.

Adam Collin saved two spot kicks to help clinch a 4-3 shootout success after the Millers had battled back from two goals down at half time to level at 2-2 with a double from Alex Revell.

They started the match the better and had what looked a legitimate penalty claim waved away when Revell went down under a challange from Orient skipper Nathan Clarke.

The Londoners came more in to the game as the half progressed and two goals in four minutes put them in control.

Moses Odubajo lashed in the first from a half-cleared free-kick after 34 minutes and the Millers were still reeling from that blow when Odubajo squared to hand Dean Cox a simple tap-in.

Rotherham had to improve in the second half and they did. They were given fresh hope ten minutes after the restart when James Tavernier’s free-kick caused havoc in the Orient goalmouth and Revell poked in.

Five minutes later, Revell equalised with a stunning strike, a dipping 30 yarder that dropped in to the delight of the massed ranks of Millers supporters behind the goal.

Orient took the initiative in the first period of extra time and goalkeeper Adam Collin and Kari Arnason had to be alert to foil substitute Chris Dagnall, but both teams were exhausted come the finish.

While Lee Frecklington had his effort saved in the shootout, successful attempts from Kieran Agard, Ben Pringle, James Tavernier and Richie Smallwood, plus Collin’s saves, clinched a second successive promotion and set the celebrations in motion.
