Skipper praises battling Millers’

SKIPPER Craig Morgan saluted the character of his Rotherham United team-mates after their against-the-odds win over Wolves.

The promoted Millers were second best for long spells and survived several close shaves in a rocky first half before Ryan Hall notched the only goal of the game 14 minutes from time.

Saturday's victory, watched by more than 10,000 fans at the New York Stadium, got Steve Evans' battlers off the mark in the Championship after their opening-day defeat at Derby.

Morgan (pictured) said: "We weren't happy with our first-half display. We were sloppy in areas but it typifies our character that we came through to win. We got lucky with the goal but we were unlucky at Derby last week, so maybe it evens itself out."

The Millers now have a chance to bag three more points against Watford at the New York Stadium tomorrow night (7.45pm).

Added Morgan: "When you go into a season, you always want to secure your first win. That's done now so we can look to push on and build up some points."
