Skipper Cresswell's heartbreak

RONNIE Moore is keeping his fingers crossed that skipper Ryan Cresswell will return to action this week, after the heartbreak of the death of his grandfather just 24 hours before Saturday's game at Bury.

It meant the shattered Cresswell didn't travel and missed the game at Gigg Lane.

His granddad had been an inspiration from being a youngster and also during his playing career and never missed a game.

The players wore black armbands in tribute during Saturday's 1-1 draw.

Said boss Ronnie Moore: "Ryan’s granddad died on Friday and he didn’t feel up to playing at Bury and you can’t force the lad to play.

"He meant a lot to Ryan and it affected him badly. Hopefully he'll be back this week."

United travel to Burton Albion tomorrow in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
