Manager Ronnie Moore said: "Andy was unlucky but he'll get another chance."

And those words will be of comfort to the former Swindon and Chester man, who has struggled to establish himself since being brought to the club as a free agent early last season.

Nicholas said: "The manager thought I'd done well in the reserves and put me in and it was frustrating the way things turned out.

"All I got to do was put in some long throws and a couple of headers, one of which turned out to be serious.

"I had to go to the dressing room for treatment and the time seemed to go by quite fast while I was in there but afterwards the lads were asking why it took me so long!

"When I rejoined the play, the blood started coming out again as soon as I headed the ball I had no option to come off."

If Nicholas does get another opportunity, he's looking forward to reproducing that favourite tactic of Ronnie Moore—the long throw.

"I always enjoy getting the throw-ins going. It's always a threat. Last season we scored a number of goals from the bibs and bobs that resulted."
