REPORT: Titans crushed in home finale

ROTHERHAM'S alarming slide continued as they were crushed 46-7 by fellow strugglers Nottingham in their Clifton Lane home finale.

In one of their worst performances for years - surpassing the recent battering against Ealing - Titans shipped seven tries against the visitors, who had lost their previous eight Championship fixtures. The last non-bonus point they scored was a 19-19 draw against Rotherham at home in November.

But in what looked to be a kneejerk reaction to Justin Burnell's axing four days earlier, the players' confidence and spirit looked sapped.

Titans had led 7-0 from a George Tressider try 19 minutes in, the scrum-half wriggling over after good work from the pack and Caolan Ryan converting.

But that was as good as it got.

They paid for missing two good openings as Nottingham levelled through Charlie Thacker, Tiff Eden converting and then nosed ahead at the break as Oliver Evans scored to make it 12-7.

The second half was a disaster as Nottingham ran in five more tries, Stevens notched a quick double and wing James Stephenson also went over to put the game beyond the hosts' reach and then subs Rob Langley and George Worth got in on the act. Eden took his conversion tally to four.

Caretaker coach Steve Salvin was shell-shocked afterwards.

He said: "There was a clear reaction to what happened in the week and I was disappointed by the way we fell away after a good first half.

"We'll just have to pick ourselves up and get ready for the final game at London Irish in a fortnight's time."
