REACTION: Warne pleased with desire of Rotherham United players

The previous week, the interim boss distanced himself a little bit from the squad, clearly still stung by the 5-0 capitulation at Cardiff.

While Warne was let down in that game and decided not to travel home on the team bus, he had no grumbles with the effort poured in at Griffin Park and he'll spend the next couple of days reminding his players of what they did right.

"If I'm honest, last week was my hardest in the job," he said. "After the Cardiff game I was humiliated and a bit embarrassed, although we did have a weaker side out. It was a difficult week and I distanced myself a bit from the lads, which I haven't done before. I've seen managers do it where they just stay away and when they do come in then then people listen.

"Picking them up will be easier this week because I am proud of the way they played and I will show them all their good bits on Monday and Tuesday. I want them to take credit for that."

Warne was typically honest, admitting the stoppage-time penalty decision for handball which turned the match in Brentford's favour after they'd twice been pegged back was the correct decision, but neverthless harsh in the circumstances.

"At 2-2 we had them rattled so to concede in the 92nd minute the way we did was a bit harsh on Semi Ajayi, who I thought was brilliant again," he said.

"I think it was handball but he was desperately unlucky. He came to defend it and the ball flicked up onto his arm and he couldn't get it out of the way. We weren't exactly crumbling at the time, we were looking the more likely to score.

"We deserved a point so 4-2 is a bitter pill to swallow but the fans who followed us will be leased with the effort the players put in. The lads really showed a desire to play for this great club today."
