The striker said the 2-1 success at Glanford Park was down to teamwork and desire, with Rotherham needing to step up to the mark defensively and offensively to come through a hard contest.

Strikes from Joe Newell and Semi Ajayi ensured Lee Novak’s reply was a mere consolation.

“We knew that in some parts of the game we would come under the cosh a bit,” Ball told the Advertiser. “Overall they didn’t have many clear cut opportunities and we could have done a little bit better with their goal but overall we attacked well when we needed to and defended well.

“We upped our game and man for man, including the subs that came on, we were fantastic today.”

Now unbeaten in 11 matches and well established in the League One play-off frame, Ball said the team were determined not to get ahead of themselves.

“We just want to take each game as it comes and beat who is in front of us, that’s our attitude at the moment. Everyone, including the players who miss out, are doing their bit,” he added.
