'One or two' could leave NYS on deadline day

THERE could be one or two deadline day departures from Rotherham United — although they might not necessarily include top scorer Danny Ward.

QPR and Huddersfield Town have made bids for the 26-year-old and while interim manager Paul Warne accepts the the club might still receive an offer it can't refuse, he is confident the striker will stay and then consider his options in the summer.

Warne expects to bring in two or three more new faces today to add to defenders Ben Purrington and Semi Ajayi who arrived yesterday, and Richard O'Donnell and Alex Bray who joined earlier in the window, but says there could be movement the other way.

Speaking ahead of tonight's match at Nottingham Forest, he said: "One or two might go. If they're not in the team now and frustrated by the lack of opportunity, they'll want to play football. They know I'm bringing more people in and others are coming back from injury. Jonson Clarke-Harris is a month away from a return, Lee Frecklington is coming back and Joe Newell will be available.

"I don't like letting loads go, but I would rather have 18 pros who I know can play every week and a back-up of young pros and that's how I would run the ship if it was mine."

Warne, meanwhile, has made an offer to utility man Ryan Taylor, who was on trial with the Millers in the summer and has been released by Port Vale.

He added: "He can play a number of different positions, which is helpful for us because we don't have a plethora of choices across the back. He has other options and the offer is there, it won't be changed."
