The 32-year-old is a free agent after the end of his six-year stay at MK Dons and has been heavily linked with a move to South Yorkshire.

Potter helped the Dons win promotion to the Championship two years ago, making more than 260 appearances for the club, and worked with current Millers assistant manager Richie Barker.

He would help fill the gap in the centre of the park left by the departure of Richie Smallwood as the management team, headed by Paul Warne, look for five more new signings to add to their only summer arrival so far, defender Michael Ihiekwe from Tranmere Rovers.

Barker said: "Darren Potter is someone I know well from working with him for three years at MK Dons. He was vice captain and was well thought of there."

With striker Danny Ward expected to move on, forwards feature heavily on the club's wish list and they are thought to be in pole position to land Fleetwood Town's David Ball.
