Near miss for Ajayi in Player of the Month stakes

ROTHERHAM United's Semi Ajayi has missed out on the Sky Bet EFL League One Player of the Month award.

The gong has instead gone to Northampton Town's John-Joe O'Toole.

Ajayi forced himself into the reckoning with a string of commanding performances in January, during which the Millers conceded only two goals in four games.

He was nominated alongside Gillingham striker Tom Eaves, Blackburn forward Danny Graham and O'Toole. The Northampton midfielder has returned from a niggly groin injury to help the Cobblers to seven wins from 13, bagging goals in four successive games and boosting their survival chances.

Rrated one of the best centre-halves in League One by manager Paul Warne, Ajayi will be part of the action when Rotherham chase a fourth straight league win tomorrow away to play-off rivals Scunthorpe.

Richie Towell is back to full fitness after missing last week's win over AFC Wimbledon. Striker Michael Smith will wear a face mask to protect the nose injury he picked up in that game.
