NEGOTIATIONS to secure land for Rotherham United's proposed new stadium will resume in the new year.

Chairman Tony Stewart has submitted a bid for a 12-acre site not far from Millmoor and hoped to make a positive announcement before Christmas. But after a meeting with the landowners on Tuesday, more talks are now required.

Stewart told the Advertiser: "We'll pick up the negotiations in the first week in January.

"I am still positive and we are near a conclusion."

The preferred location is believed to be the Guest and Chrimes site on Don Street although that has still to be officially confirmed.
