Millers primed for waiting game against Fulham

PAUL Warne says patience will be needed if Rotherham United are to upset play-off chasers Fulham this weekend.

On the brink of relegation from the Championship, the Millers go in as outsiders against a team who have won admirers for their stylish play.

The New York Stadium clash is a chance to snap a run of seven straight defeats and give the long-suffering supporters someting to cheer but interim and Warne, who saw his side pipped 2-1 in the first meeting at Craven Cottage, knows his players could have to play the waiting game.

"Fulham are the best footballing side in the league at the moment," he told the Advertiser. "They keep the ball for long periods so we will have to be patient and the fans will too, we can't expect 60 or 70 per cent possession against them. They want to pick holes through you and they're excellent footballers.

"They have full-backs who play high up the pitch and are ridiculously quick and there is really good movement throughout the team.

"At their place we were really good in the first half when we had Izzy Brown causing all sorts of problems. We will set up to be resilient and hopefully create chances and score.

"I think we have been competitive at home and we need to be again."

Warne says the players owe it to the club and the fans to put in a shift and for the first time in a while he will have some selection dilemmas.

"Potentially we could have Darnell Fisher, Richard Wood, Stephen Kelly and Richard O'Donnell. It's the strongest team I have had to pick from in months," he added.
