Millers no-go on out-of-contract duo

SWINDON Town defender Nathan Thompson - linked this week with the Millers - could be on the verge of signing for League One club Charlton Athletic, the Advertiser understands.

The out-of-contract Robins skipper was believed to be on Rotherham United's wanted list, but it now looks as though he will be heading to the capital.

Meanwhile, the Millers will not be pursuing former Sheffield Wednesday central midfielder Jose Semedo.

The Portuguese 32-year-old has been released by the Owls after six years with the club and the Millers have been linked with a move.

But assistant manager Richie Barker has told the Advertiser that he thinks those links are down to location rather than any concrete interest.

He said: "Semedo is somebody who has been released by Sheffield Wednesday and has made noises about wanting to stay in the area, there's probably half a dozen clubs within the region he could sign for.

"We've ended up on that list but that's as far as it's gone."

Make sure you pick up this week's Advertiser for the latest from the NYS, including one striker the club are interested in and Barker's reflection on Richie Smallwood's departure.
