Millers land home cup date against Wigan

THE Millers have been drawn at home to fellow Championship outfit Wigan Athletic in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Both newly promoted from League One, they’ll meet at the AESSEAL New York Stadium week commencing August 13.

Rotherham lost 3-1 to Wigan at the NYS last November before earning a goalless draw in the return in Lancashire in April,  the Latics eventually going on to win the league under Paul Cook.

The last League Cup meeting between the two clubs was in 1993, the Millers prevailing 5-2 over two legs.

Rotherham have got past the first round in four of the last five seasons but their last long run in the competition was in 2008/09 when they put out Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves and Southampton before losing to Stoke in the fourth round.

EFL Clubs have voted to remove extra time from every round apart from the final. Matches tied at 90 minutes go straight to a penalty shoot-out.

The 2018/19 league fixtures are out next Thursday at 9am.
