ROTHERHAM United are hoping that the icy blast subsides in time for their Boxing Day fixture against Darlington to go ahead.

A frozen pitch at Don Valley Stadium put paid to Saturday's promotion clash against Dagenham, with match referee Tony Bates calling the game off at 9.15am to save the Londoners a wasted journey.

Warmer temperatures are forecast for later in the week and manager Ronnie Moore said: "We'll be doing all we can to get the Darlington game on."

Chairman Tony Stewart, meanwhile, hopes to secure the site for the club's proposed new stadium at a meeting with the landowners tomorrow.

Stewart had been expecting an answer to his bid for the 12-acre site on Friday but now more talks will be held.
