Millers delight at capture of strike duo

STEVE Evans says he still can't believe his luck in capturing two key strikers just minutes before Monday's transfer deadline ticked down.

Evans swooped to sign young Oldham Athletic striker Jonson Clarke-Harris and former Leeds man Luciano Becchio, answering the fans' clamour for more attacking strength in the ake of Saturday's 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford.

Clarke-Harris (20) signed for an undisclosed fee in a deal that represents a new club transfer record for the Millers while Becchio comes in on a long-term loan.

And Evans says the club's persistence has paid off in the chase for Clarke-Harris' signature.

“Over the summer period we have made a number of approaches to Oldham as we tried to recruit his services," he said.

"He is a powerful boy with lighting pace and is an outstanding addition to what is already a very talented squad, we all look forward to working with Johnno and watching his progress continue.

“Last season he produced a number of stunning performances and it is no surprise that he has today been subject to a deadline day move to play Championship football, I am delighted Rotherham United has won the race to sign the boy.

Manager Steve Evans further strengthened his attacking options after last-minute bid to land Becchio was successful.

The Argentine striker shot to prominence in England following a hugely successful spell with Leeds United, where he averaged a goal every other game during his four-and-a-half years at Elland Road and joined Norwich City in a multi-million pound deal.
