Millers crash out of cup

AN under-strength Rotherham United side crashed out of the Carling Cup at the first hurdle to Peterborough United last night.

Missing nine players through a mixture of injuries and unavailability, the Millers were beaten 4-1 at London Road.

Marcus Marshall shocked the home side early on when firing in his first goal in Rotherham colours but Posh struck back with two goals in four minutes from Ryan Bennett and George Boyd to put them 2-1 up at half time.

Second-half strikes by Aaron Mclean and Craig Mackail-Smith rounded off the scoring.

Disappointed Millers boss Ronnie Moore said: "Even fielding our best side, it was always going to be a tough game. We will not come up against an attacking force like that.

"We knew how difficult it was going to be but for more than half an hour we more than held our own and got the goal.

"We got done by two sucker punches and it was self inflicted and from 1-0 up and looking OK we were 2-1 down.

"There was one or two little half chances for us but at this level you've got to take them."

The Millers return to league action at Morecambe on Saturday.
