Millers chief looks to clear transfer obstacles

The club is closing in on two six-figure targets and hopes to reveal some positive news by the end of the week.

But Warne, who is quickly becoming accustomed to the frustrations of a football manager, said that the obstacles sometimes involved more than money.

"Until a player signs then nothing is certain," he told the Advertiser. "For instance, a player might not want to move up north initially but then his partner wants to so he is keener on it than he was 20 minutes before. It's a never ending thing, situations can change three or four times a day."

Warne added: "We are a League One club who can afford to buy a couple of players but a lot of teams in the division are recruiting without spending a penny.

"It's still no different to anywhere else, you get the ones you can afford and the ones you think can better the squad for League One."

Meanwhile, the Millers have confirmed that they have exercised the option to extend striker Danny Ward’s contract by a further year as expected.

The decision will entitle the club to a fee should last season's top scorer move on.
