Millers chairman plans longer-term

CHAIRMAN Tony Stewart wants to put a proper long-term plan in place for Rotherham United, starting with the appointment of the next manager.

As the Millers supremo and the board set about looking for the club's fifth boss this calendar year, Mr Stewart wants the turnover of players as well as bosses to slow down.

And, he said, he had learned that it didn't always pay to meet a manager's every wish.

"It's not just about getting over this season, it's a two or three-year plan," he told the Advertiser. "For too long we have had a fix for the season and then another. I don't want this mad rush, getting players in for the moment. We've got to look at long term, to get a team together for two or three seasons.

"Alan Stubbs came in and wanted five guys and finished up with 14. That's me, that's me at fault for trying to give the manager what they want. Managers aren't always right."

The board will draw up a managerial shortlist over the next couple of days.
