Just 210 supporters made the trip down to Bristol City on Saturday, the numbers reflecting the wretched form that has seen Rotherham draw one and lose 15 of their 16 away games this term.

Mattock, who played in midfield in the latest defeat, is sad the team players able to reward them with a result but said they all appreciated the time and effort people put in to follow the team.

He told the Advertiser: "There weren't a massive amount of fans but the ones that were there were brilliant. They stayed after the game and clapped us and we went over and applauded them as well. I've been at clubs before where there wouldn't be any supporters there, they'd have left. Our fans stayed and I'm thankful for that.

"It's a long way to Bristol and myself and all the lads are thankful for them going to support us and keeping supporting us."

Now 15 points adrift at the bottom of the table, Mattock and his team-mates must pick themselves up for Saturday's home date with third-bottom Blackburn Rovers.
