ROTHERHAM Harrier Mark Ruddleston overcame the bitter conditions to win the 13th Santa’s Special race, organised by Kimberworth Striders.

A record field of 100 runners took part on the two-lap course through Droppingwell woods and fields, with some challenging climbs.

Ruddeston was first home in 26 minutes 52 seconds, eight seconds ahead of Striders’ Dan Birkinshaw and Mark Evitts (27:24).

Rotherham Harrier Natalie Grant was the first lady home in 27:02 with Kimberworth’s Claire Spencer (30:32) and Helen Wade (33.03) second and third.

Age category winners were—men O40: Howard Darwin (Rotherham H), men O50: Kevin Thomas (Rotherham H), men O60: Michael Nunn (unattached).

Ladies O40: Nina Hague (unattached), ladies O50: Jan Hutton (Totley), ladies O60: Mary Chapman (Kimberworth).

Junior boy: Tom Hutton (Hallamshire Harriers).

Junior girl: Emma Dutton (Rotherham H).
