Let's move on, says Stewart

PAST is past. What matters now is the future.

That was chairman Tony Stewart's view as he defended Steve Evans and his controversial football career.

Convicted of tax fraud and suspended from the game during his time at Boston United, the Scot is a controversial character and Stewart is fully aware what he is taking on.

But he also says that the public perception of the man is different from that of those who know him personally and that he is not as bad as has been painted.

"I wouldn't judge him on the hearsay past," said Stewart. "A lot things have been misinterpreted and people jump on the bandwagon. Everybody knocks winners and I think there has been a lot of jealousy (towards Steve).

"Professionally, we looked at the history behind the manager and the stats and the attitude. With Steve, you have two people—a gentleman off the pitch and someone who can get agitated on the pitch, but he can get results.".
