SPORTING legend Freddie Trueman would have been bowled over...

Maltby’s finest son is to be immortalised by a new ale brewed by a Yorkshire company, which aims to celebrate the iconic cricketer’s life.

It will be launched early next year to coincide with the unveiling of a new bronze statue as part of a campaign launched two years ago by Northern Rail.

The Freddie Trueman Yorkshire Ale is being developed by Skipton's Copper Dragon brewery and his widow Veronica says Fiery Fred, who died three years ago, would be delighted at the news.

She said: “Fred would be overjoyed that a real Yorkshire brewer is behind this.
