Kids urge motorists to slow down

ALMOST 90 per cent of children in Yorkshire and Humberside say drivers go too fast in their neighbourhood, according to road safety charity Brake.

A survey of 823 nine to 13 year-olds in the region found that almost nine out of ten children think drivers go too fast around their homes and schools.

Shockingly, one in 11 children (9 per cent) also revealed that they had been knocked down while walking or cycling, while a further 62 per cent had had a near miss, and 12 per cent more have had a scary experience with traffic.

The survey was carried ahead of Brake’s launch of National Road Safety Week which takes place between November 22 and 28.
