Key week ahead for Millers

ROTHERHAM United boss Steve Evans expects to complete at least one signing next week, saying: “It’s a crucial seven days ahead for us.”

The Millers boss has been working overtime to complete his squad in time for the reporting back date of June 26, having shown four prospective players around the New York Stadium this week with another one due in town early next week.

Evans has been linked with several targets and, even though he remains tight-lipped, it is understood that former £800,000 striker Matt Tubbs remains high on the wanted list.

The Bournemouth record signing, sold by Evans 18 months ago when he was Crawley boss, hasn’t settled with the Cherries and has been hit by injury and will be the subject of further talks.

Tubbs, still contracted at Dean Court, will cost the Milelrs a record fee  — with Rotherham likely to land the 28-year-old providing the personal deal is right.
