"I want value for money," says Warne

ROTHERHAM United chief Paul Warne says the club won’t pay over the odds for players as the clock ticks down to the January transfer deadline.

Warne expects to make one permanent signing and conclude at least a couple of loan deals before 11pm tomorrow night to add to centre-back Semi Ajayi, who joined from Cardiff City today until the end of the season.

The permanent deal will be for a defender and the loans for a striker and a wide man but, stressed Warne, existing bids on the table would not be increased.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s match at Nottingham Forest, he said: “We’ve put all our offers out and been more than generous with them and we’re not budging. I want value for money for the club and I don’t want people coming here kicking and screaming over 50p here and there. If it’s not going to happen and the clubs don’t want to sell then we’ll go for another target, it’s as simple as that.

“Realistically I think I’ve got three players coming in. I need a defender, a striker and another wide man, although in fairness my wide man have been excellent. We just need competition for places to help the players keep their standards up.”

Responding to reports of fresh interest in Grimsby Town striker Omar Bogle who, according to national press reports, was the subject of a £850,000 bid from Rotherham, Warne said: “All I do know is that whatever the last offer is (for Bogle), it wasn’t from us.”
