Evans: I won't make same mistakes

STEVE Evans says he won’t make the same mistakes as previous Millers’ boss Andy Scott and sign players for the sake of it.

With the United squad effectively completed following last week’s acquisition of striker Kieran Agard, Evans won’t make any more moves in the transfer market unless the right man comes along.

With cash still available for further recruitment, Evans is still on the lookout but refuses to bring in players to swell squad numbers.

He told the Advertiser yesterday: “I’m going to have to say this, I don’t want to do what Andy Scott did and sign players for the sake of signing them. I want players who can make us better.

“I think we can all identify, without naming names, one or two in the squad that are here this season because their contracts overlap from last season. They’re having to work extremely hard just to get a place on our bench.

“I’m never going to fault those lads because they’re giving it everything they’re got, but I’m not going to add to the squad with someone who might make a difference, who may be a good player in a couple of years."
