Cyclists to pass through Rotherham borough as Tour de Yorkshire 2018 route announced

TOP cyclists will pass the stunning Wentworth Woodhouse before racing through Swinton, Conisbrough and Mexborough as part of next year’s Tour de Yorkshire.

Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of race organisers Welcome to Yorkshire, announced the route for next May’s race at a press conference in Halifax this morning (Tuesday).

He confirmed stage two of the race, which will be held on Friday, May 4, will pass the front of the stately home.

The peloton will start in Barnsley and pass through Worsbrough, Elsecar, Wentworth before a sprint along B6090 Wentworth Road, Swinton, and pass Conisbrough Castle and go through Mexborough before heading through West Yorkshire and finishing in Ilkley.

It is the first time the Rotherham borough has been included on the route of the race, which has been held every year since Yorkshire hosted the Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014.
