Cresswell on way to Millers

THE first piece in Rotherham United's new-look defence is about to fall into place with the arrival of centre-half Ryan Cresswell.

Subject to a medical, the 22-year-old will sign for an undisclosed after failing to take up the offer of a new contract at Bury.

Cresswell had a brief loan spell with the Millers in 2007 and has spent the last two years with the Shakers, making 59 appearances.

He will be a direct replacement for Ian Sharps, who left this week to join Shrewsbury Town.

Rotherham's skipper of last season, Sharps rejected a new deal to join the Millers' League Two rivals. The contract would have made him the second highest paid player at the club.

His departure ends a four-year association with the Millers since signing from Tranmere Rovers.

The Millers have been linked with a loan move for Sheffield United centre-half Matthew Lowton and manager Ronnie Moore is also looking for two full-backs after the departures of Mark Lynch and Gavin Gunning.

Youth product Grant Darley has signed a six-month professional deal.
