Classic cars ready for Silverstone Classic Retrorun

AROUND 200 cherished classic cars will arrive in style at this year's Silverstone Classic as they take part in the Silverstone Classic RetroRun on Saturday 24 July.

The RetroRun is open to any car that is more than 20 years old and the schedule for this year’s event  includes a road route of 100 miles, visits to places of classic car interest, exclusive infield parking and two entry tickets for all three days of the Silverstone Classic plus a parade lap of the Silverstone Historic Grand Prix Circuit on the Sunday.

"Driving in the foremost classic car event in the UK is not only great fun but also very easy if your car is more than 20 years old," said RetroRun organiser Dermot Bambridge. "And it is an historic event in its own right, with roots going back more than 20 years."

There are three routes for participants to choose from and all start and finish at the dedicated RetroRun parking area right in centre of the infield action at Silverstone. Tulip-style road books are provided to ensure that entrants can enjoy finding their way through the back roads of some of England's finest countryside.

There are three stops en route according to which route is chosen. Renowned race preparation company Prodrive in Banbury is opening its doors to show off its historic collection of mainly rally and GT cars, while National Trust property Upton House will allow the cars to park along its fine drive and inside is a fine collection of artwork from the classic pre-war Shell petroleum posters.

The third stop is at the showrooms of Malcolm C Elder and Son near Bicester, where there is always a fine array of classic and other vehicles on display.

Most of the cars in the RetroRun will be from the post-war era, up to and including the 1980s.

The RetroRun takes place on Saturday 24 July. The cost for the RetroRun is just £109 per entry, which includes passes for two people for all three days of the Silverstone Classic, a road book, entry costs for the stops, rally plaque, in-field parking over the three days and participation in the track parade on the Sunday.

The entry fee is £109. Full details can be found on the website at www.silverstoneclassic.com or by contacting Dermot Bambridge on [email protected] or telephone 01327 857823.
