Chance for fans to meet Millers heroes

MILLERS players past and present will be meeting fans and lending their support to a special event next week

Silverwood Miners' Welfare is the venue for the From Coal to Goal exhibition, showing the links between coal mining and football to show that being a footballer in the 1940s and 50s was different to now.

Thursday's event will be an opportunity for Millers fans to get an insight and ask questions of modern-day footballers and those of the past.

The Millers' heritage officer James Rawlinson said: "Many players combined playing for Rotherham United with working in local factories and down the mines.

"This event will be an opportunity for Millers' fans and the people of Rotherham to get an insight into one of our most exciting projects.

"From Coal to Goal' is using 12 interviews with people who have memories and experiences from the '40s and '50s including ex-players, fans and people whose close family had an involvement with Rotherham United. On the day we will also have a small quiet area for anyone who has a story or experience they would like recording."

James added: "I would be really interested if anyone had any memorabilia from the '40s and '50s that they could bring and we could photograph or take a copy of —given that there is little left from this period. Any photos, ticket stubs, match reports or newspaper cutting would be great to see."

The event begins at 10am. For more information contact James Rawlinson on 07739 463803 or email [email protected]
