The former player and fitness coach took temporary control following the brief stint of Kenny Jackett, who departed after just five games, and the ill fated rein of Alan Stubbs who was sacked after 13 games in charge earlier in the season.

The Millers were officially relegated from the Championship last weekend following a 1-0 defeat to Fulham and were defeated 2-0 by South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

Chairman Tony Stewart told the Advertiser following the Fulham defeat that recruitment for the upcoming League One campaign was already well underway.

The Millers currently sit bottom of the Championship table with 17 points from 40 games. Warne has overseen 23 games since being made caretaker manager in late Novemeber, winning three, drawing one and losing 19.

Warne’s first game as permanent Rotherham United manager will be at the club where he started his professional career, Wigan Atheltic, on Saturday.
