Redfearn racked up more than 300 appearances during seven years at Barnsley and after coaching jobs at Halifax, Scarborough, Northwich Victoria and York, sharpened his coaching credentials in the youth set-up at Leeds and earned high praise for his work with their academy.

He also had three stints as caretaker boss and then seven months as head coach last season, handling himself with dignity and taking Leeds to mid-table amidst the chaos under owner Massimo Cellino.

Redfearn left the West Yorkshire outfit in the summer after Uwe Rosler was appointed as manager.

The new manager will take charge of his first match against Brentford away next Saturday.
