The WBA World Bantamweight ace has set up the Jamie McDonnell Foundation and put together a seven point plan which will see the creation of several projects throughout South Yorkshire.

That includes linking up with Wales High School, the first he is to work with, and a number of Y8 and Y9 students will get the chance to work with Jamie as well as other professional boxers who will act as mentors. The project aims to improve students' aspirations and attainment through sport.

Wales' head of Y9, Liam Beardsley, says it's a knockout idea.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to work with someone right at the top of their profession," he said. "They'll receive boxing training, including a leadership course and the opportunity to take part in various mathematical and literacy based workshops. Students will also have their lunch provided by on-site nutritionists and the ten week programme will also see students helping to run two local boxing shows."

Doncaster-born Jamie, currently in talks to defend his world title in Japan later this year, is delighted to have forged the partnership with the school.

"I'm excited to be working on a project that is important to me," he said.

"My biggest motivation in boxing has been to earn enough money to provide for my family. That still remains a priority, however the launch of the foundation will allow me to have a closer relationship with charitable work and social issues.

"We have ambitious plans for the future and they are plans that I feel are achievable."

The sessions will take place at Stefy Bull's Professional Boxing Academy in Denaby.
