JUST a few weeks ago it looked unlikely that Birmingham Bees would be able to fulfil tomorrow’s Clifton Lane date in the new British and Irish Cup.

The Sharmans Cross Road outfit were on the brink of collapse with a near six-figure sum owed to the Inland Revenue, while players were leaving the club in droves—including Rotherham-bound Craig Voisey and PJ Gidlow.

But Bees boss, the ex-Titan Russell Earnshaw, has defiantly managed to keep the club alive and pieced together a new life-saving consortium while the RFU gave them a month to prove that they can secure a sustainable future.

Birmingham went into voluntary liquidation to stem the financial tide flowing against them and have been docked 15 Championship points as a result.

The RFU spent almost four hours deliberating the Bees’ 11th-hour rescue plan and gave the club a continuation licence until next Monday, at which point a further review will be held.

Titans will ring the changes with only three members of last week’s squad retaining their places, coach Craig West giving a chance to his undercard men.

Kick off is 2pm.
