Toseland eager for Monza return

DETERMINED James Toseland jetted to Monza yesterday with the intention of getting his World Superbike campaign back on track.

The BMW Motorrad rider his serious hand injury in testing a month ago when he suffered badly displaced bones in his right hand, which required extensive surgery and pins to get them realigned.

Having missed the second and third round of the championship due to the injury, Toseland is desperate to return to action but remains realistic about his chances of actually racing at Monza this weekend, having only had the pins removed last week.

"The good news is that the operation went well and everything is back in place,” he said.

“Technically it should be two weeks from having the pins out before I do anything, but with the way I’m feeling I want to give it a try if I can."

"The biggest problem is going to be having enough power to grip the bars and the flexibility.”
