Torquay call-off frustrates Millers

ROTHERHAM United made a fruitless 500-mile round trip to Torquay on Saturday as their match at Plainmoor was postponed.

And the circumstances around the call-off have left a bitter taste with the Millers, who weren't even aware that the match was in serious doubt until turning up at the ground at 10.30am.

Communication from the Torquay club was said to be poor and now the Football League could investigate the circumstances surrounding the postponement.

The night before, an appeal was put out for volunteers to come in and clear snow off the pitch and the surface underneath was said to be soft and playable.

But on arriving at the ground, referee Trevor Kettle was particularly concerned about one section in particular and called the game off.

The Millers are scheduled to return to action on Boxing Day away to Stockport County.
