Titans ready for Welsh test

IF Andre Bester has spent the week pondering his side’s mental toughness, then London Welsh chief Lyn Jones has been equally perplexed.

While Rotherham were handing Mike Schmid’s Esher their first win of the season, not far up the road in leafy Kew, Welsh crashed to a 10-7 defeat at home to Moseley.

To compound Jones’ frustrations that followed a 13-13 draw at home to Esher the previous week, both results putting the skids under the Exiles’ hopes of making an impact as they head towards the play-offs.

Tomorrow’s game at Clifton Lane means both sides will be desperate to get back to winning ways, with Rotherham keen to show that their stunning 33-25 victory at Old Deer Park in mid-October was no fluke.

That was the game which really perked up interest in Bester’s side as potential challengers. It was a performance right out of the top drawer against a side thought my many as title possibles.

But Bester’s job now is to get the Titans over the mental hurdle of last week’s 24-12 reverse at Esher, coupled with defeats at other basement sides London Scottish and Plymouth.

Tomorrow's game starts at 1pm.
