Swift speeds to world gold

CYCLIST Ben Swift sped to the biggest success of his career when taking gold at the World Track Cycling Championships in Australia.

And now the Rotherham star is striving to bag even more honours at the Olympics this summer.

Swift (24) held off a late challenge from South African Nolan Hoffman to claim the

rainbow jersey in the 15km scratch race.

The 60-lap race produced an enthralling final lap as Swift made his move on the leading pack to take a dominant lead.

Hoffman and Netherlands rider Wim Stroetinga followed, but it was the Team Sky man

who held on for a huge win.

Swift has been billed as "one to watch" in the lead-up to the Olympics and has a growing reputation as one of the fastest young sprinters in the world.

"This win hasn't quite sunk in yet," added Swift.
