Stubbs targets five more

MANAGER Alan Stubbs wants to bring as many as five new faces to Rotherham United by the end of the month.

With eight summer signings already in the bag  after the capture of Celtic defender Darnell Fisher on Wednesday for an undisclosed fee, Stubbs expects to take that number to nine today with one new addition.

Speaking to the Advertiser, he says that he wants up to five newcomers in before the transfer window closes at the end of August and there is also a possibility one or two players could move on to give him even more room for manoeuvre.

And he stressed that Tuesday's shock EFL Cup defeat to League Two Morecambe hasn't changed his plans.

“It's like everything in a football club, you have to learn quickly and do things quickly sometimes and that's what we're doing,” he said. “I'm under no illusions what I need to do and the other night just reinforces that."

After an opening-day draw against Wolves, the Millers chase a first Championship win of the season at Aston Villa tomorrow with injury concerns Joe Mattock and Kirk Broadfoot both expected to be available for selection. Lee Frecklington (calf) misses out.

Much more from Alan Stubbs and a look ahead to this weekend in today's Advertiser.
