Stubbs in waiting game

MANAGER Alan Stubbs is prepared to wait weeks to get the players he wants for Rotherham United.

But he has confirmed that the Millers have lodged a substantial bid for their latest transfer target and have mounted a loan swoop for another player.

With the new season just a week away, squad numbers are still well short of the desired target of 22 to 24 and there is only one fit senior striker available.

While aware of the urgency of the situation, Stubbs said he would not sacrifice quality in a rush to get people in before next Saturday's Championship opener against Wolves.

“We are pursuing every potential avenue,” he told the Advertiser. “If it meant just bringing bodies in, I could have had 12 in and that's not the right way to go about it. We have taken our time because we want to bring the right players here.

"The transfer window is open until the start of September and it may be we get some in just before that. I'm hoping it's not the case but we have to look at every potential outcome.”
