Skipper strives for promotion

ROTHERHAM United captain Johnny Mullins admits he now fully appreciates how tough it is to climb out of the fourth tier of English football.

The central defender signed on for what he hoped would be a swift climb into League One when Ronnie Moore brought him from Stockport County in 2010.

Now onto his third attempt, he's under no illusions about what is required but reckons the current side has the best chance of going up.

Mullins said: "I think this is a difficult league and difficult league to get out of. When I first signed, I did so to get promotion and after two-and-a-bit years I now realise how difficult it is.

"But when I look at those players behind me in the dressing room, they're probably the best I've played with.

"Inconsistency is the problem but if you can go on a run now you put yourself right in with a chance. We all know the ultimate goal and we're all behind achieving that."

After a free weekend, Mullins and his team-mates resume their campaign at home to York City tomorrow night (7.45pm).

Saturday's results saw them slip to fifth spot but with games in hand on all their closest rivals.
