Sammon sees potential

FRESH from bagging his first goal in Millers colours, Republic of Ireland international Conor Sammon believes he can form a dynamic partnership with Matt Derbyshire.

Former Olympiakos man Derbyshire also fired in his first league goal of the season in a display Millers fans will have hoped for more of when he became Steve Evans' first post Wembley signing last year.

Evans has yet to find a consistent starting pair since the season began in August, but Tuesday's victory against Bolton showed a lot of promise and the well-travelled duo may well have more to come.

Sammon said: “Matt has very good experience and both of us like to run in behind, stretch the game, be a real nuisance for defenders and not give them a minute's peace and ultimately be a goals threat, because that's what we're judged on.

“We've developed a good partnership. Matt's goal on Tuesday was a cracker off his left foot. As a striker you can go through a spell where you haven't scored and it can get in your head a little bit and you get frustrated.

"I thought he was fantastic. For my goal, I was lucky enough to benefit from his shot across the goal and our workrate right across the pitch should be the base for every game we play.”
